Dear fellow fans of Jingdezhen
Welcome to this online newsletter, where I will be posting regular updates about progress on an exciting exhibition and publication project.
I am hoping this newsletter will help build a community of interest around the project, enabling you to follow my/our progress towards a series of photographic exhibitions and accompanying events and publications, scheduled for 2026.
I won't post all the plans and logistical details of the project here. Rather, the plan is to use this as a place for sharing progress updates, explain why I got excited by the core challenge and concept of the project, and why I think it's important.
Along the way, I'll post some sample images, which will hopefully give you an idea of how I'm approaching Jingdezhen and the challenge of telling its story to those who know little or nothing about its extraordinary history and impact on world culture.
Given I'm starting this newsletter in early Feb 25, it begins from a point of significant progress and project development. A visit to Jingdezhen in late 2024 involved an exhausting, but exciting round of meetings and site visits. Over the past few years, the city has been working towards a UNESCO world heritage listing. This project has been designed to dovetail with that, such that the material for an exhibition and accompanying publications will be ready for early-mid 2026.
With that deadline in mind, I'm now working on producing content and planning for additional trips over the coming months.
Pour some tea and read on...

Finally, a word of thanks to Patricia Welch, whose excellent idea it was to fire up a newsletter.
